According to an author's imaginitive story, the strawberry daiquiri came to be as a result of a confederate civil war spy's drinking adventures with a group of northerners. The story goes that a man and some of his neighbors ran an ice farm by cutting blocks of ice out of a lake that froze every winter. During summertime, they had had a hard week of harvesting hay to use to refrigerate the ice that winter.
To relax and celebrate the end of their hard work harvesting, the group tapped a keg of rum and began partying. Due to the roughness of the rum, somebody suggested mixing it with strawberries from the farm's strawberry patch. The exact recipe of strawberries, rum, and other ingredients was slowly perfected with each prepared batch.
It turned out that one of the hands that had helped with the harvest was a confederate spy. He had been drinking lightly to stay sober enough to remember details of the conversation that could help with the confederacy's war effort. Once the recipe was perfected, he wrote it down and began drinking with the rest of the group.
The heavy drinking caused the spy to forget all the war-related information that could have been useful, however, he had the strawberry daiquiri recipe. Due to his lack of success as a spy he was eliminated from the military, and forced to set up shop selling strawberry daiquiris just to get by. His peddling of the drink supposedly led to the great popularity of the strawberry daiquiri today.
